Quora is a great site, there's no doubt about that. I agree with you though when you said that it's not solving an unmet need. It's fun to browse and see interesting questions that have been asked, there's always something interesting. However, it's not the site to go to if you need a citable, high quality answer for (say) business. There's no real way of connecting with professionals via Quora and then turning that into some kind of consulting engagement. For this type of business service, there's a site called Quewey.com. Quewey is an expanding, application-only community of professionals asking questions, sharing answers, and making business decisions.

You forgot "take a proper English word, get rid of all the syllables" -> Twttr.

Pros: Domain will probably be available. People will remember you as the startup with the weird spelling without vowels, but at least they will remember you!

Cons: Your product is probably lame.

Hmm... I like the vibe of this piece, and my personal impulse is to just build something with the tools at hand and then iterate from there. But in projects that involve the input of many people, or a system/product that is resistant to rapid prototyping, what tool, besides wireframes, can pull the conversation out of the bog of "what font? what color?"

I view site redesigns as a way for designers to exercise their creativity. If a redesign is presented as just another creative interpretation that is obviously inspired by the original site design, it may not come across as arrogant or trying to backstab the original designer or team.
